Ex-diplomat claims Jalil Abbas Jilani Appointed as Caretaker PM of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – The political landscape of Pakistan is currently buzzing with speculation over the appointment of the next caretaker Prime Minister. As the National Assembly of Pakistan prepares for dissolution, the question of who will take up the mantle of leadership has become a hot topic.

The ruling PDM coalition, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and including PPP leader Asif Zardari among others, has been engaged in intense discussions to agree on a suitable candidate for the crucial role. Despite several names of politicians and economists being suggested, no final decision had been made as of late Tuesday.

Adding fuel to the fire of speculation, former Pakistani diplomat Abdul Basit took to social media to announce that retired Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani has been appointed as the next caretaker Prime Minister. His tweet congratulated Jilani on his appointment, calling it a proud moment for the Foreign Service of Pakistan. However, this claim has not been confirmed by other sources, leaving room for doubt and further conjecture.

Jalil Abbas Jilani is a seasoned diplomat with an impressive career in foreign affairs. He has served as the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan and represented the country as an envoy to the US, Belgium, Luxemburg, the EU, and Australia. Known for his expertise in South Asian affairs, Jilani has also held significant positions within SAARC, served as the acting High Commissioner to India, and was the Director (India) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As the nation awaits official confirmation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet with Leader of the Opposition Raja Riaz to finalize the name of the caretaker PM and the next cabinet. Until then, the question remains – Has Jalil Abbas Jilani been appointed as the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan?
