2024 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport: Enhanced Power and Upgraded Features Unveiled

Toyota has announced a significant upgrade for the 2024 model of its popular Fortuner GR Sport. The majority of these enhancements are focused on the vehicle’s performance, particularly under the hood.

The latest update reveals that the Fortuner GR Sport’s 1GD-FTV 2.8 liter inline-four turbodiesel engine has been revamped to deliver an impressive 221 horsepower (hp) and 550 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. This represents an increase of 20 hp and 50 Nm compared to the current model.

The power generated by the 1GD-FTV engine is transmitted to the wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox equipped with paddle shifters. The new model will retain the part-time four-wheel drive (4X4) capability, a feature that is also present in the current model.

Despite the significant performance upgrades, the exterior and interior features of the new Fortuner GR Sport remain largely unchanged. The GR-branded sports seats, key fob, push start button, monotube dampers, brakes, 20-inch wheels, aluminum pedals, and exterior style will be carried over from the existing model.

Additional features include automatic LED headlamps, synthetic leather upholstery, a powered driver’s seat, a 4.2-inch multi-info instrument cluster display, a nine-inch touchscreen head unit, and compatibility with Wifi Apple Carplay, and Android Auto.

The 2024 model also boasts a powered tailgate with hands-free access, a wireless phone charger, seven airbags, a panoramic view monitor, and the Toyota Safety Sense package.

The upgraded SUV is set to make its debut in Thailand, where it will be priced at approximately Rs. 15.78 million. Interestingly, despite the enhanced power and additional features, the new model is still more affordable than the Pakistan-spec Fortuner GR-S variant, which offers less power and fewer features.
