WhatsApp is testing new customization options that will allow users to change the color theme of the app and chat bubbles, according to evidence found in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS.
iOS beta version 24.1.10.70 includes the ability to change the “branding color” to one of five options: green, white, pink, purple, or blue. Currently, the default branding color is set to blue. Screenshots show the updated theming options in the Settings menu of the app.
Additionally, there are hints that customizable chat bubble colors could also be coming in the future. WhatsApp chat bubbles currently alternate between light and dark green.
It’s not yet clear when these features will roll out to the stable versions of WhatsApp. The theming options are not yet widely available even among beta testers.
Given WhatsApp’s cross-platform nature, the customizations will likely come to Android as well. But there is no timeline yet for availability on Android beta or stable releases.
Increased personalization has been a priority for WhatsApp. Users can already customize chat wallpapers, and the new theme colors and chat bubble options would provide additional ways to customize the look of conversations.
As with all beta features, there’s no guarantee these options will reach the stable version. But they show WhatsApp’s continued investment in features that allow greater personal expression.
