WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature that allows users to schedule group calls. This move is seen as an attempt to rival the likes of Google Meet and Zoom, which already offer similar features.
The popular messaging platform owned by Meta is currently testing this feature in its latest beta version for Android (2.23.17.7). The new functionality will enable users to plan future group calls and notify all group members accordingly.
A screenshot from the beta version reveals that the call button within a group chat will soon have the option to schedule calls for a later time. Users can set a specific date and time for a conference call and even specify its purpose. Additionally, they can choose whether the scheduled call should be a video or audio call. Group members who opt to join the call will receive a notification 15 minutes before the call commences, eliminating the need for manual reminders.
This feature was first spotted in a previous beta version of WhatsApp a few months ago. However, its appearance in the latest beta version suggests that it is nearing its official launch.
Despite the excitement surrounding this new feature, there is no official information on when WhatsApp plans to roll it out to all users. Currently, it remains in the beta testing phase and will be made available to more users in the coming weeks.
This development is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and provide more comprehensive communication tools. It follows other recent updates such as a security upgrade, the introduction of 3D stickers, and the ability to share screens during calls.
