- WhatsApp is testing a new Meta AI-powered feature called Quick Chat Recaps, that summarizes unread chats into a simple overview.
- Currently available in the Android beta version, it allows users to select up to five chats and view updates without opening each one.
- The feature ensures privacy with on-device processing and is expected to roll out to all users soon.
WhatsApp is working on another AI-powered update that will allow users to easily read all unread messages. The platform is developing a new feature known as Quick Chat Recaps, will generate detailed chat summaries on the unread chats. The new addition is yet another part of Meta AI slowly being integrated to WhatsApp.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature will be available as an optional feature that users can enable by turning on the Private Processing toggle. It is currently being tested in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.21.12, and can be downloaded on Google Play Store.
For those unfamiliar, Private Processing is a Meta secure data processing system that ensures user privacy and enables AI to perform its task locally on the device. It means that the generated summaries will not be shared with Meta or any third-party vendor.
Once rolled out, users will be able to select up to five unread chats, and activate the Quick Chat Recaps option through the three-dot menu in the top right corner. Meta AI will display an overlay on the bottom of the screen, showing a detailed summary of all selected unread conversations.
It differs from WhatsApp’s new feature of upcoming message summary, requires user to open each chat individually to view the summary. Quick Chat Recaps saves you this process and summarizes multiple conversations at once, so it becomes much easier to follow a long thread without reading every single message individually.
As everything is done on-device, the user data is secure and confidential. The feature is currently only available on Android as a beta release to testers but stable users and those using iOS will have to wait some weeks.
