US, UK, Canada, and EU Ask Their Citizens to Avoid Unnecessary Travel in Pakistan

Following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and the European Union have issued travel advice to their people in Pakistan.

Due to the possibility of terrorism, instability, and kidnapping, the alert advises residents to avoid needless travel in Azad Kashmir, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Foreign visitors should use caution when visiting Western-style restaurants and retail malls in the country. The Canadian High Commission has issued a travel alert, advising Canadians to exercise extreme caution owing to the country’s uncertain security situation. It foresees terrorism, civil instability, sectarian violence, and kidnapping.

At the regional level, the advice warns against all sorts of travel and advises against traveling within 10 kilometers of the borders of China, India, and Iran.

Due to the possibility of violence and terrorism, it also advises against needless travel to Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as non-essential travel to Karachi.

The Canadian government may be unable to give consular help to Canadians in regions of significant security concern, and it is difficult to provide Canadian consular aid in the Government of Pakistan’s restricted and pre-authorized zones.

Protests are anticipated across Pakistan in response to Imran Khan’s detention on May 9 during his court appearance, and security forces are on high alert in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi. The security situation in Islamabad is shifting and unpredictable, and residents are encouraged to heed local authorities’ recommendations.
