
United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially announced the possible dates for the observance of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha for the year 2024.
As per the details released by the UAE cabinet, the country is set to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr with a four-day holiday commencing from April 8th until April 12th. This period marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, and the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The exact dates are subject to the sighting of the moon, which is the traditional method used to determine the commencement of all Islamic months.
Following Eid Al-Fitr, the UAE will also observe Arafat Day is expected to fall on June 15th. Arafat Day precedes the festival of Eid Al-Adha, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Eid Al-Adha itself is likely to be celebrated starting on June 16th, with holidays announced from June 16th to June 18th for the occasion.
Additionally, the UAE has declared July 7th as a day off in recognition of the Islamic New Year marks the beginning of the new lunar Islamic calendar year.
Prophet Muhammad’s birthday will be observed with a public holiday on September 15th. Mawlid al-Nabi is celebrated with various religious activities and events throughout the Islamic world.
UAE will round off its list of public holidays with the National Day celebrations on December 2nd and 3rd, commemorating the UAE’s formal nationalization and the eventual formation of the federation of seven emirates in 1971.
