Slack has launched a new mobile feature called “Catch Up” designed to help users manage the high volume of messages and notifications on the platform.
Catch Up allows users to quickly swipe through channels and direct messages, marking conversations as read or leaving them unread.
The impetus for the feature came from Slack’s observations that people often use the mobile app to prepare for their workday, but can feel overwhelmed by the amount of unread messages.
By enabling users to parse messages more efficiently, Catch Up aims to cut down on digital noise and help workers focus on substantive conversations.
Available only on mobile, Catch Up is one of several recent changes by Slack to improve the user experience, including a major app redesign last year.
While the redesign received mixed reviews, features like Catch Up show Slack’s commitment to addressing the information overload and distraction that workplace messaging platforms can exacerbate. By empowering users to better manage their messages, Catch Up hopes to make Slack communications more focused and productive.
