How to Share YouTube Video at Specific Start Time

Share a YouTube video starting from a specific point? See how you can easily create a time specific link both on desktop and mobile.

Use YouTube’s Share Feature (Desktop)

  • Open the video and pause it at you want to share at specific start time.
  • Right click the video.
  • Select Copy Video URL at Current Time.
  • Paste the URL with Ctrl + V (Windows) or Command + V (Mac).

Alternatively,

  • Click Share button below the video.
  • In the Share window, check the box next to Start At.
  • The time will auto-fill based on when the video is paused. Adjust it if you want.
  • Click Copy to copy the link.

The link will play the video from the specified time, when the recipient opens it.

Manually Create a Time-Specific URL (Mobile & Desktop)

On mobile, the YouTube app does not feature a built in time specific links option, but you can tweak the URL manually.

  • Desktop: Copy it from the browser address bar.
  • Mobile: Tap “Share” and share the link with Copy Link.
  • Add &t= followed by the time you want the video to start. Use the format:
    • 2h10m15s for 2 hour, 10 minutes, 15 seconds.
    • Example: &t=2h10m15s or &t=50s for 50 seconds.
  • Combine the YouTUbe URL with the time parameter:
    • https://youtu.be/GjDLQ7Wb2js?t=2h10m15s

Send this link along and it will take you to exactly the time you specified.

Use YouTube’s Clip Feature

If you would like to share a specific section of a video:

  • Select Clip below the video.
  • Set the start and end times of the clip.
  • Copy and share the generated link.
