The Pakistan team has set a new record by scoring their fastest-ever team century in Test cricket. This historic feat was achieved during the second Test match of the two-match series against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo.
The Pakistani team, led by Babar Azam, began their innings with an aggressive approach, reaching the first hundred runs in just 16.4 overs, equivalent to 100 balls. This is the first time in the 21st century that the Pakistan team has reached their first hundred in such a short span of time, making it the quickest century in this century.
The match started with Pakistan bowling first and dismissing the home side for a mere 166 runs. This was largely due to the exceptional bowling performance of Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed.
Despite losing Imam-ul-Haq early in the innings when he was batting on just six runs, the team’s performance remained undeterred. Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique stepped up to the challenge, delivering a splendid performance. The duo formed a 108-run partnership before Shan was dismissed for 51 off 47 balls. Abdullah, who was batting on 71 at the time, looked poised to score big and provide the Men in Green with a substantial lead in the first innings.
This achievement comes on the back of Pakistan’s victory in the first Test match of the series, where they won by four wickets at Galle. Saud Shakeel played a pivotal role in that victory, scoring his maiden double-century. With this momentum, Pakistan leads the series 1-0 and looks set to continue its winning streak.
