Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is undergoing significant changes under the leadership of its newly appointed chairman, Zaka Ashraf. One of the most notable developments is the offer extended to former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez to assume the role of chief selector for the national team. This proposition was made by the interim Management Committee, which has recently been put in charge of the PCB.
Ashraf, who has just been officially appointed as the head of the PCB by the federal government, held a crucial meeting with Hafeez to discuss this opportunity. Despite the importance of the role, Hafeez, who has transitioned from cricket to analysis, has not immediately accepted the offer. He has requested some time to consider it due to his existing commitments.
During their meeting, Hafeez congratulated Ashraf on his new position and expressed his admiration for Ashraf’s dedication to cricket. Hafeez stated, “Zaka Ashraf is a capable administrator whom I hold in high regard. I will certainly consider a favorable offer to serve Pakistan cricket.”
The current chief selector, Haroon Rashid, is expected to step down soon, making way for new management. This change is part of a broader restructuring within the PCB, with rumors suggesting that other prominent cricketers such as Younis Khan, Mohsin Khan, Saleem Yousuf, and Shoaib Akhtar may also be offered various positions.
The federal government’s decision to appoint Ashraf as the chairman of the PCB came earlier this week. This move was accompanied by the formation of a new 10-member management committee, tasked with overseeing the affairs of the PCB for a four-month term. The appointment of Ashraf and the formation of the new committee mark a significant shift in the administration of Pakistan cricket, with the potential to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to the sport.
