- New AI feature Describe Image generates simple descriptions of photos, charts, and graphs.
- Runs without internet on your PC, ensure privacy and security.
- Currently available on Snapdragon X-powered Copilot+ PCs, with more support coming soon.
Microsoft is adding another AI-powered feature to make Windows more enjoyable. The new tool, Describe Image, can analyze any image and give a short and clear description of the image contents. It can provide you with a quick overview of the visual content, whether it is a photo, a chart, or a graph, without having to use any third-party tool.
The latest Windows Insider Preview Dev build announced the feature alongside the Click to Do menu. Microsoft explains:
“We are adding a new describe image action to Click to Do that will provide a detailed description of images, charts, and graphs, that is useful to get a quick view of the visual content.”

Privacy is one of the biggest concerns about AI-based image analysis, but Microsoft assures it runs locally on your PC, meaning your data does not leave the device. It is fast and secure as it scans and provides descriptions using a local AI model.
Currently, the feature is rolling out to Snapdragon X-powered Copilot + PCs, although AMD and Intel-powered Copilot + PC support will be added soon.
To get it early, you will have to join in the Windows Insider Program and install the latest Dev build. But for a smoother experience, it might better to wait until the stable release which will be least likely to have any bugs and glitches.
