Major General Hafeez Ur Rehman (Retd) has been appointed head of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Rehman, Member (Administration) PTA, was named chairman of the Authority by the federal government last week.
Rehman is a technology specialist with over 37 years of experience in national security, ICT development, spectrum management, digital transformation, cyber security, and policy formulation. Gen Hafeez graduated from National Defense University (NDU) Islamabad with a BE (Telecom) and an MS (War Studies).
He has held important leadership positions in ICT strategy and transformation. He has extensive expertise in the implementation of cutting-edge telecom infrastructures, increasing network resilience and efficiency, fiberization, RoW management, and data center design and architecture. He has also held major positions with the United Nations (UN) in member countries.
He serves on the boards of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), the Frequency Allocation Board (FAB), the Universal Service Fund Company (USFco), and IGNITE (National Technology Fund) in addition to PTA. Gen Hafeez has been awarded the ‘Hilal-e-Imtiaz Military’ for his great service to the country.
