Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced winter vacations for all public and private schools and colleges in the province for the academic year 2023-24.
As per the notification, schools and colleges in plain areas of the province will observe winter vacations from December 23, 2023 to December 31, 2023. Educational institutes in these areas will reopen on January 1, 2024.
Institutes located in hilly and snowy regions will remain closed for winter holidays from December 23, 2023 to April 29, 2024. They will reopen on March 1, 2024.
The department has divided the province into summer zone (plain areas) and winter zone (hilly/snowy areas) for determining the duration of vacations. The longer break is aimed at accounting for weather conditions in mountainous areas.
The announcement has been welcomed by students who will get about a week’s vacation in plain areas and over 3 months in hilly areas to enjoy winter holidays.
The winter vacations notification is issued every year well in advance by the education department so that students, parents and staff can plan activities and travel accordingly.
