Karachi Kings franchise has announced its retention list for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 player draft. Surprisingly, the Kings have not retained any players in the platinum category.
As per the announcement made on December 7th, 2023, newly traded batsman Shan Masood has been retained in the gold category after being named brand ambassador. Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik will also be in the gold category, taking on a mentor role.
In the diamond category, the franchise has retained English batsman James Vince and pacer Hasan Ali, who was recently traded from Islamabad United. Other retained players include Mir Hamza, Mohammad Akhlaq, and emerging player Irfan Khan Niazi.
Some notable names missing from the retention list are Mohammad Amir and Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, both of whom have been released.
The Karachi Kings will be hoping their new roster can help improve on their poor recent showings in the PSL. The franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last two editions of the tournament.
With the retention list now locked in, the Kings will look to plug gaps in their lineup during the upcoming player draft for PSL 2023.
