India Announces Cricket World Cup 2023 Squad
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the final 15-man squad that will represent the country in the upcoming One Day International (ODI) World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to commence on October 5, 2023, in India.
Leading the team as captain will be Rohit Sharma, with other notable players such as Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul also included in the lineup. Other members of the squad include Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Imad Ali Jan.
However, the announcement has not been without controversy. Notably absent from the roster are Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna, who are currently representing India in Sri Lanka for the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Their omission from the World Cup squad has raised eyebrows among cricket enthusiasts and experts alike.
Additionally, experienced spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin have also been left out of the squad. This decision by Ajit Agarkar, who announced the Indian squad for the mega event, has sparked debate given their consistent contributions during the ongoing season.
Despite these surprising exclusions, the selected squad boasts a strong mix of seasoned players and emerging talent. As the host nation, India is expected to put up a formidable performance in the World Cup. The nation eagerly awaits the start of the tournament, hoping for a successful campaign led by Rohit Sharma.
