Can you unsend a message on Snapchat when they See it?

You can remove a Snap or chat from a conversation if you have seen them. If the recipient has not opened the Snap, they will be notified that you deleted a message but could not read what was in it.

When a Snap has already been opened in the chat log, you can still delete it. However, Snapchat warns users that if a screenshot is taken, the recipient may have saved the message before it disappeared.

How to Unsend a Message on Snapchat Before Opened

If you want to delete a Snap or chat message before it’s opened.

  • Open the Snapchat app.
  • Click on the screen with the Chat icon.
  • Open the chat or snap you want to delete.
  • Select the message or Snap you want to unsend.
  • Choose “Delete”.
  • Now, tap Delete Chat.

How to Delete a Sent Snap on Snapchat

You can delete it no matter which status the Snap is Delivered or Opened. Just remember that recipients will be informed that a Snap has been removed.

  • Open the Snapchat App
  • Click the conversation with the Snap you want to delete.
  • Find the Snap you wanted to unsend.
  • Tap and hold on to the Snap.
  • Select “Delete”.
  • Tap “Delete” again to confirm the action.

What Happens When You Delete an Unopened Message on Snapchat?

When you delete an unopened message or Snap:

  • The message will notify the recipient, saying, “[User] deleted a chat.”
  • The Snap or message will no longer be visible.
  • When deleting multiple messages, your recipient will be notified for each one.

When You Delete a Snap Before It’s Viewed, Can They Still See It?

Deleting a Snap before anybody has viewed it ensures the recipient does not see the content. However, they will get a notice that tells them that a Snap was deleted.
