Google is also making its AI-powered search experience more available by extending Gemini-powered AI Mode to five more languages, including Hindi. The move broadens the tool’s reach, providing non-English speakers with a chance to interact with Google AI in their native languages.
According to Robby Stein, Vice President of Product at Google Search, AI Mode can now understand and reply in Brazilian Portuguese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, and Korean. The update was revealed on X and follows the recent rollout of AI Mode to over 180 countries just two weeks ago, reflecting high usage of the feature worldwide.
Google explained that the multilingual expansion is supported by a custom version of its Gemini 2.5 AI model. This model has been fine-tuned to deliver “culturally relevant and useful” responses in each supported language. Beyond accuracy, the AI will give an answer that aligns with the local context and nuance, making the experience of international users more enjoyable.
The multilingual update builds on Google’s broader efforts to make AI Mode powerful and more adaptable. Google launched agentic features on AI Mode last month and is now offering them to Gemini Advanced (AI Ultra) subscribers in the US. The features allow AI to deal with complex and multi-step tasks, like booking dinner reservations by processing multiple requirements, including date, time, party size, and meal preferences.
To achieve this, Google has integrated its Project Mariner system with data from Google Maps, its Knowledge Graph, and partner platforms. Currently, partners are OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, and StubHub, so AI Mode is able to provide real-time availability and proactive assistance that goes beyond traditional search.
