First lunar eclipse of 2023 to take place on May 5

On the nights of May 5 and 6, Pakistan will experience the first lunar eclipse of the year. Many Asian countries, as well as parts of southern and eastern Europe and Australia, will be able to see the celestial event.

The total eclipse will be seen in some places, but the moon will rise or set in others. Pakistani skywatchers will be able to observe the eclipse from start to finish.

The lunar eclipse will begin at 8:14 p.m. and peak at 10:22 p.m. before terminating at 12:32 a.m. after midnight. This natural wonder is projected to endure four hours and eighteen minutes.

A Penumbra Lunar Eclipse happens when the Moon passes through the outer half of the Earth’s shadow, known as the Penumbra. The Earth partially stops the Sun’s light from reaching the Moon during a penumbral lunar eclipse, causing the Moon to look somewhat darker than usual.

The darkening, however, is generally mild and not as obvious as it is during a partial or complete lunar eclipse. Penumbral lunar eclipses may be viewed with the naked eye from anywhere on the Earth’s night side where the Moon is visible.
