How to Turn on YouTube’s Dark Mode on iPhone

YouTube is one of the must-have apps on any iPhone. Whether it is for doing a tutorial or quick reviews to unlimited entertainment, it is a must-have tool for most of us. However, watching YouTube in dim light or at night can be uncomfortable for your eyes. That’s where YouTube’s Dark Mode comes in.

Dark Mode setting will make it easier to watch at night, as well as give the app a sleeker look overall. You can even make YouTube match your system appearance on your iPhone, or you can be in Dark Mode permanently.

Why use YouTube’s dark mode?

  • Reduces strain when watching in dark environments.
  • On OLED screens, Dark Mode can help conserve battery life.
  • Many users prefer the cleaner, modern look of Dark Mode.

If you want to spend time and just watch videos on YouTube, or you open it once a day, Dark Mode can improve the experience.

How to enable YouTube’s dark mode on iPhone

To get started, install YouTube app from the App Store. If you are not logged in, you can turn on the Dark Mode, but signing in will save your settings and sync across devices.

  1. Open YouTube on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
  3. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right.
  4. Select General from the menu.
  5. Tap Appearance.
  6. Choose Dark Theme from the list.

Once you select it, your app will be turned directly into the Dark Mode. Alternatively, you can select Use device theme to replace Dark and Light colors with the features that will help automatically switch the preferred mode depending on your iPhone settings.

  • Same steps apply to the iPad YouTube app.
  • Similar settings will be available to Android users and on the YouTube web app.
  • To revert to the Light Mode, go to the Appearance menu and select your preferred option again.

While Dark Mode may be a visual upgrade for YouTube, it is necessary and can be helpful to watch videos at night or in a dark environment. You can choose to make it as dark as your device theme or keep it permanently dark, the choice is yours.
