When you create something online or offline, it is automatically copyrighted. This involves both your writing and your images. It is not necessary to file with your country’s copyright office, although it might be useful in some instances to show ownership. To copyright your Tumblr blog entries, include a copyright notice on your site. A copyright notice should be included in the sidebar or footer.
How to Copyright Your Tumblr Posts
- Go to Tumblr, sign in, and then click the “Gear” button on the following page.
- Click the “Customize Your Blog” button, then scroll down to “Theme” and select “Use Custom HTML.”
- Type “Begin Footer” in the search box by pressing “Ctrl+F”. One result should be highlighted in the HTML code of the Tumblr theme.
- Copy and paste the following line of text into your desired footer section, using your name and the proper year:

Displaying this notice informs your readers and visitors that the content on your site is copyrighted and protected.
