The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court has dismissed Khalid Khurshid Khan, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He is suspected of obtaining a license from the GB Bar Council using a forged degree.
A panel of three judges, including Judge Malik Anayatur Rehman, Judge Johar Ali, and Judge Mohammad Mushtaq, rendered the disqualification ruling.
This action follows a petition filed against the CM demanding his removal from office. Ghulam Shahzad Agha, a PPP member of the GB Assembly, questioned Khurshid’s law degree, citing Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution as grounds for disqualification.
Amjad Hussain, the petitioner’s lawyer, claimed that Khurshid’s degree had not been authenticated by the University of London and had been ruled false by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
On May 29, Chief Judge Ali Baig convened a larger panel to expedite the proceedings. The panel was told to undertake daily hearings and come to a decision within 14 days.
The court also asked for replies from the HEC, the CM, the GB Bar Council, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on this topic.
