As winter approaches, the demand for dry fruits in Pakistan typically rises. Among these, Chilgoza, or pine nuts, stand out as a particularly sought-after treat. However, consumers looking forward to indulging in this seasonal delicacy might be in for a shock due to the steep increase in its price.

Reports indicate that the cost of Chilgoza has soared dramatically, with current rates ranging between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 12,000 per kilogram—a surge of up to 100% compared to the previous year.

The hike in prices is attributed to a decrease in production, which has not been able to keep pace with the growing demand. This scarcity is hitting consumers hard, and it’s not just the pine nuts that are affected; the price of Peshawari Kehwa, another popular winter staple, has also seen a notable increase.
The Dry Fruit Union Vice President, Farhad Khan, has expressed concerns that the situation may worsen. He warned that the prices for the fresh stock of dry fruits could become even more prohibitive in the coming weeks, potentially doubling from the already high levels.
