UAE Unveils Innovative New 500 Dirham Banknote with Advanced Security Features

The United Arab Emirates has leaped currency innovation by introducing a new polymer 500 dirham banknote. This latest development was announced by the UAE Central Bank, marking a milestone in the nation’s commitment to enhancing the security and sustainability of its currency.

The newly designed banknote retains its distinctive blue hue, ensuring easy recognition among users. However, it’s not just the color that stands out; the banknote features cutting-edge security measures, including a multicolored security chip known as KINEGRAM COLORS.

This technology was previously used in the Dh1000 banknote and is now proudly embedded in the Dh500 denomination, making the UAE the first country in the Middle East to use the largest foil strip of this kind on a banknote. This pioneering step is aimed at combating counterfeiting and is a testament to the UAE’s role as a leader in currency security within the Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions.

The design of the new banknote reflects the UAE’s rich cultural heritage and its forward-thinking vision for sustainable development. The front side of the note showcases the Terra Sustainability Pavilion from Expo City Dubai, symbolizing the nation’s dedication to a sustainable future, inspired by the principles of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

On the reverse side, the Museum of the Future in Dubai represents a fusion of past and future architectural marvels. Iconic landmarks such as the Emirates Towers and the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, are also depicted, emphasizing the country’s commitment to sustainability through solar power.

The Central Bank of the UAE has chosen polymer material for the new banknote. This decision makes the banknote more than twice as durable as traditional paper notes and ensures that it is fully recyclable. By opting for polymer, the UAE significantly reduces the environmental footprint of its currency, aligning with global trends towards eco-friendly practices.
