WhatsApp chats backup now transfer to new phone with simple QR code feature

WhatsApp has various capabilities for backing up your conversation history, including the ability to keep old messages and other files in a cloud storage service such as Google Drive.

These alternatives by Meta-owned platform allow users to restore conversation history while transferring to a new phone or if they mistakenly lose chats, however, previous options were not simple, forcing some to select other apps while others chose not to restore data.

WhatsApp has released a new data transfer feature that reduces the multi-step process of recovering your conversations and files on a new smartphone without the need for cloud backups.

A QR code service will now allow users to send data over Wi-Fi Direct. The application is now available to Beta users, and it will be made available to all users in the following days.

Go to WhatsApp in the upgraded app, then Chats, and then Chat Transfer, where you’ll find the new option.

Meta ensures that data is only shared between two devices and is properly encrypted during transfer to preserve privacy.

Meanwhile, data transfer from Android to iOS is still unavailable, and the capability only works across devices running the same operating system.
