YouTube tests creator collabs feature to rival Instagram and TikTok

YouTube is taking a page from Instagram and TikTok as it tests a new feature that should make it easier for creators to discover and collaborate with. In a recent blog post on YouTube Help, a Google employee revealed that YouTube has been testing a feature that allows creators to include other users in a tag within a video directly.

The feature is a reflection of existing features in TikTok and Instagram, where co-authoring content and tagging collaborators has become an aspect of improving visibility and gaining followers alike. This will allow viewers to view and subscribe to all the creators within a particular video, helping them engage and share that video in new ways.

Currently, the feature is limited to a small number of verified creators. However, YouTube reportedly plans to roll it out widely soon, but is waiting for the results of the test phase.

This feature was first used in a recent upload of MrBeast, who has collaborated with creators Mark Rober, Ben Azelart, and the Stoke Twins. In the video, MrBeast’s name triggers a pop-up window displaying all tagged collaborators, each with an individual subscribe button.

Similar to Instagram and TikTok, YouTube’s version is expected to require collaboration consent, meaning creators must approve tag request before being listed as co-authors in any video.
