WhatsApp Web is Working New Feature for Quick Access to Starring Chats

WhatsApp Web is working on a new Favorites feature to allow users to separate their frequently contacted chats for quick access, according to findings from WABetaInfo. This addition shows a trend by WhatsApp and parent company Meta towards providing easy access to the most important contacts and content.

This month marks ten years since Meta, formerly Facebook, acquired WhatsApp. In that time, the popular chat app has seen numerous changes, ranging from minor UI tweaks to major infrastructure overhauls, all aimed at ensuring WhatsApp remains one of the most widely used messaging platforms globally.

The Favorites option spotted in WhatsApp Web beta separates starred chats from the main chat list into their tab. This helps reduce the need to constantly search for important conversations drowned out by group chats, brand interactions, and other messages in the chronological main chat list. It builds on the existing functionality to pin up to three main chats to the top of the list.

While details remain limited pending wider rollout, the screenshot suggests Favorites will function as a filter, with the main chat list still displaying messages chronologically. As long as WhatsApp does not limit the number of favorites, the feature could prove extremely useful for busy users needing quick access to their most important conversations.

Along with the recently reported ability to pin up to five channels to the top of feeds in WhatsApp itself, the steady stream of changes shows Meta’s continued commitment to ensuring WhatsApp retains its popularity and relevance as a messaging app as it enters its second decade under their ownership.
