WhatsApp is testing a new user interface layout for Channel posts that are shared as status updates, according to a report by WABetaInfo. The tweaked UI aims to add more context to Channel posts and make them stand out when shared as a status.
The new layout includes a button that directs users to the source Channel when they view the status update.
The UI change is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to integrate more closely with its sister app Instagram, which is also owned by Meta. Instagram already uses a similar interface when users share posts to their Stories.
By adding more context to Channel posts shared as status updates, WhatsApp likely hopes to make it easier for viewers to engage with and spread relevant Channel content.
In addition to the Channel post-UI change, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android also fixes a visual bug that caused a large blue block to appear on the bottom half of the screen in certain cases. This bug obscured part of the conversation or chat wallpaper.
The beta release also introduces other minor fixes and optimizations as WhatsApp continues developing new features heading into 2024. More surprises likely await the app’s vast global user base next year.
