According to a new report by Totally Human Media, nearly 20 percent of all games published on Steam in 2025 use generative AI. As per the statistics, approximately 7,818 games offered on Steam reported on making use of the AI-generated content, representing around 7 percent of the overall library of the whole platform. However, for games released in 2025, the percentage increases significantly, and almost every fifth game will be based on AI tools or assets.
It is almost a 700 percent increase over 2024, and it shows how quickly AI is being used by developers in game production. The data was collected after Steam started asking developers to either mark the use of AI-generated content, so it became much easier to track the growing trend.

The developers mentioned in their disclosure that certain of the paintings inside the main house were AI-generated, offering a small and yet very notable example of how AI is used in games.
The reaction of the players to the report has been split. Some users on Reddit stated that they would automatically disregard the games incorporating AI-generated content and that the money should be spent to acquire the services of human artists instead.
