Spotify’s New ‘Daylist’ Feature Caters to Shifting Music Tastes

Spotify recently launched a new feature called “daylist” that provides users with a dynamic playlist tailored to their music listening habits throughout the day.

According to the company, the daylist “updates frequently, bringing together the niche music and microgenres you typically stream at certain times of the day and week”. The playlist title and recommended tracks change to match a user’s preferences during different times such as morning, afternoon, or evening.

Spotify informed one user that their Monday afternoon music taste skewed “cinematic” and “wistful”, populating their daylist with artists like boygenius. Out of 50 recommended songs, the user already knew 33, indicating daylist had accurately captured their preferences.

The daylist feature suggests Spotify is still seeking new ways to increase user time spent on the platform. By providing a playlist that continually evolves to a user’s situational listening habits, Spotify hopes to keep people coming back throughout the day.

Some critics note that features like daylist further Spotify’s dominance in the music streaming space by cornering user listening data and patterns. However, fans of the platform appreciate Spotify’s ever-growing range of personalized recommendations.

Ultimately daylist represents Spotify’s latest innovation in an increasingly competitive market. For now, it offers users another cutting-edge option to soundtrack their days. And for Spotify, more time spent listening means more data to fuel further developments down the line.
