Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply in various sectors of Islamabad, including F5, F6, F7, F8, G5, G6, G7, and G8. The interruption, which is expected to last for 12 hours from 8 am to 8 pm on October 5th, 2023, is due to essential maintenance work on the gas pipelines in Sector F-8. This maintenance is aimed at enhancing the overall gas system.
In a press release, an SNGPL spokesperson advised residents of the affected sectors to make alternative arrangements during this period. The company also cautioned against the use of any gas-powered appliances during the maintenance work to avoid any potential safety risks.
This announcement comes at a time when the caretaker government is considering a significant increase in gas prices. This proposed hike, which could see prices rise by 45-50 percent, is being driven by demands from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF’s request for a price increase is likely to add further pressure on consumers who are already grappling with the temporary disruption in gas supply.
The rising fuel prices have been a major concern for the government, sparking protests in different parts of the country. However, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the overall situation. As of now, residents of the aforementioned sectors in Islamabad are advised to prepare for the upcoming gas suspension and make necessary arrangements.
