Method 1: Use Instagram’s “Download Your Information” Tool
You can access and save your data on Instagram, including chat conversations, through the Accounts Centre.
How to Recover Deleted Messages on Instagram:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Tap on your profile icon.
- Tap the three-line (hamburger) icon at the top right.
- Choose Accounts Centre.
- Scroll down and tap on Your information and permissions.
- Select Download your information.
- Tap on Download or transfer information.
- Select some of your information.
- Tick the checkbox next to Messages under Your Instagram activity.
- Tap Next.
- Choose between Download to device or Transfer to destination.
- Tap Date range and select your desired time.
- Under Format, choose your preferred format (HTML or JSON).
- Choose Media quality (Low, Medium, or High).
- Finally, tap on Create files.
You will get a notification from Instagram once the files are ready. Save the file and open it with Messages to find your previous conversations.
Method 2: Use Third-Party Recovery Tools (With Caution)
Some desktop-based apps like Disk Drill help users get back content they lost, including Instagram chats.

How to Recover Deleted Messages Using Disk Drill:
- Install Disk Drill on your PC or Mac.

- From the left menu, click Other, then search for burbn.
- Click on Messages from the left panel.
- Select the desired files and save them in a folder.
- Click Recover to export the messages.
Your deleted messages may have been stored within the recovered folder.
