Microsoft is Hiking Prices for Xbox and Game Pass

Microsoft will raise the price of the Xbox Series X in various countries, excluding the United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, and Colombia, in August.

Furthermore, the monthly costs for Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions will be raised for the first time next month. The console’s standard Game Pass membership will increase from $9.99 to $10.99 each month.

Xbox’s head of communications, Kari Perez, told The Verge:

For many years, we have maintained our console pricing and modified them to match the competitive situation in each market.

Series X Prices

The pricing changes for Series X will be quite similar to the price increase introduced by Sony for the PS5 last year. The Xbox Series X will be priced at £479.99 in the UK, €549.99 in most European regions, CAD $649.99 in Canada, and AUD $799.99 in Australia beginning August 1st. However, the Xbox Series S’s price will stay the same in all countries, at $299.99.

Following Sony’s pricing shift last year, it was generally expected that Xbox Series X pricing would also alter. Furthermore, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer warned in October that membership price might not be fixed in perpetuity.

Game Pass Prices

The price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass for Console will rise on July 6th. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be reduced from $14.99 to $16.99 per month (€14.99 / £12.99).

Similarly, the monthly price for Xbox Game Pass for Console will be raised from $9.99 to $10.99 (€10.99 / £8.99). Microsoft, on the other hand, will not be changing the price of PC Game Pass at this time.

Current monthly Game Pass users will see the increased pricing take effect on August 13th, with the exception of Germany, where the changes will take effect on September 13th.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers will begin seeing the increased rates on July 6th. If you have a yearly Xbox Game Pass code subscription, the revised cost will only apply when you renew your membership.

The price changes for Xbox Game Pass will apply to the majority of markets, although several countries, including Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia, will retain the current pricing for Game Pass console subscriptions.
