Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet Raises Minimum Wage to Rs. 32,000

The caretaker cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has approved a substantial increase in the minimum wage. The decision was made during the 10th cabinet meeting held on September 7, 2023, where the minimum wage was raised to Rs. 32,000.

The wage hike, which was initially sanctioned on June 20, is expected to significantly improve the livelihoods of the labor force in the region. This decision is part of a broader array of issues addressed by the KP cabinet during the meeting.

In addition to the wage increase, the cabinet also extended its support to doctors in the Population Welfare Department by granting health professional allowances. This move aligns their compensation with their counterparts in the Department of Health, demonstrating the cabinet’s commitment to fair remuneration across different sectors.

The cabinet also showed its dedication to local governance by giving initial approval for selected amendments to the Local Government Act 2023. These amendments aim to enhance and streamline the functioning of local authorities, further strengthening the administrative structure of the province.

In an effort to bolster disaster response capabilities, the cabinet approved the transfer of land from the Health Department to the Emergency Rescue Services. This will facilitate the establishment of a Rescue 1122 station in Lower Dir’s Adanzai Tehsil, thereby improving emergency services in the area.

Moreover, the cabinet greenlit a supplementary grant under the ongoing AIP project for those affected in Miranshah Bazar. This grant will provide support to property owners in North Waziristan. Lastly, the cabinet endorsed a food security support project, fostering agricultural development within the province.

These decisions reflect the KP cabinet’s commitment to addressing a diverse range of issues, from labor rights and healthcare to local governance and disaster management, all aimed at improving the quality of life for the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
