Rockstar Games finally unveiled the first trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 earlier this week. While the trailer confirmed GTA 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025, it made no mention of a PC version.
Now, a former Rockstar animator is suggesting that the GTA 6 PC port will launch much later than the console versions.
Mike York, who previously worked on Red Dead Redemption 2, shared his thoughts on the GTA 6 trailer in a pair of YouTube reaction videos.
Based on Rockstar’s history and the impressive graphics seen in the trailer, York believes the developer is focused on “pushing the limits” of PS5 and Xbox Series X first. This could mean a delay before GTA 6 makes its way to PC.
Rockstar has traditionally launched PC versions of Grand Theft Auto games months or even years after the initial console releases.
For example, GTA 5 hit PC a year and a half after PS3 and Xbox 360, while Red Dead Redemption 2 took a year. Leaks before the official GTA 6 trailer also pointed to a delayed PC port.
While disappointing for PC gamers, a later release date may be necessary for Rockstar to fully optimize GTA 6 for the platform. The trailer shows immense graphical detail, with expertly crafted city environments and NPC character models exceeding games to date.
Pushing these visuals to their limit across consoles, PCs, and eventually, VR requires intense development efforts.
