Apple Support app might get AI-powered chatbot assistant in iOS 26

Summary
  • Apple is developing an AI-powered “Support Assistant” for its Support app.
  • It will provide chatbot-based answers for product and service queries.
  • Users may be able to upload files for better support interactions.
  • Still under development, with no official launch date confirmed.

Apple is slowly entering the world of generative AI, and it might soon start introducing smart assistance directly to your iPhone. A new report published by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, Apple is developing a new “Support Assistant” powered by AI into its Apple Support app.

Apple has already released the Apple Support app on the App Store that can be used to send messages to live Apple agents. The new feature of the AI chatbot is expected to work rather differently.

Within the app, users will be enabled to chat directly with the Support Assistant to instantly find all the answers to their questions regarding Apple products and services, as opposed to being put in touch with a human.

The leaked code suggests the assistant will use generative AI to respond to user queries with respect to Apple products and apps. It is created to help resolve the common support issues, so that the user can troubleshoot problems without the need to wait until a human representative.

Apple has a disclaimer in its documentation, stating that the AI assistant may give inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading answers, a standard warning with every generative AI tool.

Further, Perris discovered a reference to file uploads in the code. It may mean that the users will be able to share screenshots or images with the Support Assistant to receive more accurate help, may also speed up troubleshooting processes.

Apple also collaborates with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into such features as Writing Tools, and it could be that the Support Assistant is based on a similar AI structure. Apple also mentions working with third-party partners for this tool, adding weight to that speculation.

Currently, Apple has not announced the Support Assistant feature publicly, and no official launch date has been announced.

With the Support Assistant feature, Apple continues to introduce smarter and faster customer support to millions of iPhone users as its strategy of generative AI advances.
