The launch of Overwatch 2’s season 8 has been marred by performance issues for PlayStation 5 users. Players have complained of frame rate drops and lag while playing the popular hero shooter.
Season 8 went live earlier this week, introducing a new tank hero named Mauga. However, many PS5 players have reported that the game is “unplayable” due to technical problems.
Frame rates are reportedly dropping below 20fps during matches and even in menus.
“I play on PS5 with 120 Hz monitor and settings for that output, but randomly either in [fights] or walking back from spawn, even on menus, I am dropping down to what seems like single digit to low double digit frames per second,” wrote one player.
Developer Blizzard Entertainment has acknowledged the issues but has not given an estimated timeline for a fix. “We are investigating reports of performance issues for some platforms,” the company said in a statement.
The problems seem isolated to the PlayStation 5 version of the game. Players on other platforms do not seem to be reporting similar performance drops.
Frustrated PS5 players eager to try out new hero Mauga and other season 8 content may need to wait for Blizzard to patch the technical issues before they can properly enjoy the new update.
