Limited Availability Expected for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max at Launch Due to Display Issues

The highly anticipated Apple iPhone 15 Pro and its larger counterpart, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, are expected to be in short supply following their September launch. The scarcity is reportedly due to complications with screen production at LG Display, the company responsible for manufacturing the displays for these models.

The root of the problem lies in a new manufacturing process that aims to reduce the bezel size. This issue mirrors a similar challenge Apple faced with some of its Apple Watch models. The displays for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, produced by LG, have been failing reliability tests during a process that fuses the display to the metal shell.

In response to this setback, Apple is currently modifying the design of the LG-produced displays to ensure they pass these tests. However, as a contingency plan, Apple has Samsung-manufactured displays on standby for use in assembly.

Despite these efforts, it is predicted that these complications will result in a limited number of units being available immediately after the launch. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to be the most difficult to obtain, closely followed by the Pro model.

Earlier reports suggested that Apple might delay the launch by several weeks due to these issues. However, recent sources dispute this theory, instead favoring the scarcity hypothesis. Regardless of the exact reason, it is evident that an issue with the displays is impacting Apple’s launch plans for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
