Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has announced a seven-day extension in the winter vacation for primary schools due to the harsh weather conditions.
Elementary schools will now open on January 15 instead of January 8, while high schools will start at 9:30 am rather than 8:30 am.
The decision recognizes the challenges brought by the harsh winter conditions and prioritizes the safety of students, teachers, and staff.
Sources within the education department stated that the biting cold and foggy conditions made it difficult to reopen schools next week. There were also concerns about children’s health and ensuring proper heating arrangements in classrooms.
The extension comes on the heels of similar decisions in AJK and Sindh to delay school reopening due to the cold wave. Education departments across Pakistan are closely monitoring the weather situation and may take further actions to protect students.
