The Sindh government has approved a major expansion of 4 year undergraduate programs in the province, extending BS degrees to 164 new government colleges.
Students will be able to study Science, Commerce, Arts, and Computer Science at nearby public colleges at low fees under the new plan. The move will reduce travel expenditures and pressure on major universities.
The Sindh Colleges Department has started affiliation programs with the public universities. Out of 376 government colleges in the province, 164 have applied to offer BS programs.
Sindh Secretary for Colleges Nadeem ur Rehman said that 55 government colleges had already introduced BS programs, while 5 more colleges in Karachi received affiliation this year.
He also added that BS programs will soon be approved in another 159 colleges, with affiliations from more universities currently under review.
Officials reported that the initiative is aimed at improving access to quality undergraduate education at the local level and helping more students continue higher education in their respective cities.
