WhatsApp has introduced a new “listen once” feature for voice messages. This feature allows users to send voice messages that the recipient can listen to only once before they disappear.
On December 7th, 2023, WhatsApp officially announced the upcoming “listen once” option for voice messages in an update on its Twitter account.
How It Works
To use the feature, simply record an audio message by pressing and holding the mic icon when composing a WhatsApp message. Then select the “1” icon inside a circle before sending it.
The recipient will be able to listen to the voice message once, after which it will be automatically deleted.
This feature is helpful for users who want to share sensitive information without leaving a permanent record.
For example, someone could share confidential meeting details or a private thought without worrying about it being saved, downloaded, or repeatedly played by the recipient.
According to WhatsApp’s announcement, the “listen once” functionality for voice messages will soon roll out to all users globally in the coming weeks.
The feature builds on WhatsApp’s existing “view once” option for disappearing photos and videos. With the addition of voice messages, users now have even more options to communicate privately on the popular encrypted messaging platform.
