What is Rabbit R1 AI Assistant?
Unveiled at CES 2024, the Rabbit R1 AI Assistant is a $200 handheld AI assistant with a 2.88-inch touchscreen designed by Rabbit CEO Jesse Lyu and co-designed with Teenage Engineering. Resembling a walkie-talkie with its square design and eye-popping orange color, it adds to the device’s retro appeal.
The R1 includes features like a camera, a control wheel, speakers, microphones, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a 2.3GHz MediaTek processor packed into a surprisingly compact and lightweight body that’s half the size of an iPhone 15.
How Does The Rabbit R1 Work?
Operating on Rabbit OS, the R1 runs on a Large Action Model (LAM) – an AI system that can navigate and interact with smartphone app interfaces to perform various tasks in response to voice commands.
R1’s dedicated training mode allows users to teach it new commands and interactions, enabling the device to continuously expand its capabilities by learning to operate additional apps and functionalities.

Part old-school gadget, part next-gen AI, the nostalgic simplicity of the R1 has struck a chord. It promises a more focused, less intrusive digital experience compared to smartphones – aligning with Lyu’s vision to recreate the simplicity of early mobile phones.
