SubhanAllah, the first ever sacrifice occurred during the period of Prophet Adam (AS), the First Prophet and humanity in history!
We think of Qurbani when we believe in Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his sacrifice for Allah (SWT).
But what about the other sacrifices made by Prophets throughout history?
Here is the story of Prophet Adam (AS) and the first sacrifice.
Prophet Adam’s Story: Habil and Qabil
Prophet Adam (AS) is regarded as the “Father of Humankind” since he was the first man to survive. He had two sons after that, Qabil (Cain) and Habil (Abel). Both sons were due to marry.
Then Allah (SWT) revealed to Prophet Adam (AS) that both of his sons should make a sacrifice. Whoever accepted their sacrifice virtuously would be allowed to marry the female that they were also interested in.
The first sacrifice was made.
Habil, a shepherd, provided his best sacrifice: a healthy ram. Whereas Qabil, a farmer, refused to give his best and offered a few crops from his land.
Habil’s sacrifice was accepted by Allah (SWT), while Qabil’s was rejected. Out of jealousy, Qabil then killed his brother. He’d committed the world’s first murder.
This story teaches us that sacrifice has long been a practice in Islam, dating back to the time of Prophet Adam (AS).
So, as we remember the millions of people around the world suffering from poverty, why not make your sacrifice today?
