The National Curriculum Council (NCC) Secretariat reached a significant milestone when provincial representatives from throughout Pakistan approved the National Curriculum for Grades 9–12.
This is the first time in Pakistan’s history that a core curriculum for the whole country, including Early Childhood Education and Grades 1–12, has been finalized.
Dr. Mariam Chughtai, the Director of NCC, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Provincial Focal Persons who were instrumental in facilitating this nationwide curriculum reform, including Mr. Amir Riaz (Punjab), Mr. Zulfiqar Khan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mr. Piyaro Khan (Sindh), Mr. Muhammed Saeed (Balochistan), Raja Muhammad Naseer Khan (Azad Jammu & Kashmir), Mr. Faizullah Lone (Gilgit Baltistan), Mr. Khwaja Mazhar ul Haq (South Punjab) for their valuable contributions.
The sign-off came following the successful conclusion of the 3rd Inter Provincial Curriculum Workshop, which completed the curriculum for all core topics for Grades 9-12, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Urdu, Islamiat, Pakistan Studies, and Computer Science.
To ensure that the curriculum is tailored to the needs of all students and stakeholders, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister of Education and Professional Training, visited the NCC Secretariat and personally held in-depth discussions with the official provincial/area experts in the committee for each subject.
The NCC Secretariat had extensive engagements across Pakistan to collect feedback from all sections of the country, including Inter-Provincial Curriculum Workshops and Regional Curriculum Workshops in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan.
A feedback portal on the NCC website also provides a place for written feedback from the general public. The feedback process includes representatives from the public and commercial sectors, non-profit organizations, and madrassas, assuring a collaborative approach to curriculum improvement.
This historical achievement reflects the NCC Secretariat’s dedication to developing a transparent and inclusive curriculum that meets the needs and ambitions of all Pakistani students. It is a historic step toward a brighter future for all of the country’s youth.
