Oppo Unveils Siri-Like Smart Assistant ‘AndesGPT’ for Enhanced User Experience

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo is set to revolutionize the user experience with the introduction of its new artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, Xiao Bu. This innovative feature is powered by the company’s proprietary large language model, AndesGPT, marking a significant advancement in AI conversation technology.

The newly enhanced Xiao Bu Assistant showcases improved semantic comprehension, the ability to generate content from text prompts, and superior summarization skills. These advancements are a testament to Oppo’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI technology into its products, aligning with the current trend in the tech industry.

At the heart of the Xiao Bu Assistant is AndesGPT, a robust language model developed by Oppo’s Andes Intelligent Cloud team. The model operates within a hybrid cloud framework and has been under development for two years. It evolved from a series of self-designed models, starting with Obert, each with varying degrees of complexity and performance capabilities.

The Obert models, which had parameters ranging from one hundred million to one billion, gained significant recognition. They temporarily held the fifth position in the Chinese language understanding benchmark CLUE1.1 and secured the top spot in the large-scale knowledge graph question-answering KgCLUE1.0 leaderboard.

AndesGPT builds on the foundation laid by the Obert model, incorporating a range of essential technologies that contribute to its unique features. These include continuous assimilation of insights from Chinese dialogues, precision-tuning through instruction, integration of reinforcement learning guided by human feedback, and augmentation of the knowledge reservoir.

The extensive research and development efforts invested in the Obert models have enabled Oppo to create a conversational assistant that is more sophisticated, contextually aware, and capable of delivering responsive interactions. This move by Oppo mirrors similar initiatives by other tech giants like Huawei and Xiaomi, indicating a growing trend toward AI integration in the tech sector.
