Chinese tech giant OnePlus is gearing up for a significant event, the OnePlus Open, scheduled for August 29. The event, confirmed by renowned tipster Max Jambor and SmartPix, is expected to be a game-changer for the company as it plans to introduce its first-ever foldable phone.
The launch event, which will take place in New York, will also be live-streamed online, allowing tech enthusiasts worldwide to witness the unveiling of this innovative device. Following the event, the foldable phone is set to go on sale during the third quarter of the year, with an international launch soon after.
The OnePlus Fold, as it’s being referred to, is designed to compete with other flagship foldable phones, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. It boasts impressive specifications, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, up to 16 GB RAM, and a massive 512 GB storage capacity.
The foldable phone’s main screen will feature a 7.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a punch-hole selfie camera. A secondary 6.3-inch panel, also a 120Hz AMOLED display, will likely include its own punch-hole selfie camera.
In terms of camera capabilities, the OnePlus Fold will house a robust setup, including a 50MP IMX890 main sensor, a 48MP IMX581 ultrawide, and a 64MP telephoto lens, possibly a periscope zoom. This configuration is expected to support 4K video recording at 60 FPS or higher.
Powering the device will be a 4,800 mAh battery, divided into two halves of the phone, supporting 67W wired charging. However, there’s no information yet regarding wireless charging capabilities.
As for the price point, it’s anticipated to be around $1500, aligning with its competition, the Galaxy Z Fold. With these features and competitive pricing, the OnePlus Fold is poised to make a significant impact in the foldable phone market.
