New Date Announced for MDCAT 2023 After Student Protests

The Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) for the year 2023 has been rescheduled in response to student protests. The announcement was made by the caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, who granted additional preparation time to the aspiring MDCAT students.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Commission (PMDC), the regulatory body responsible for the test, had initially set the date for the MDCAT as August 27. However, following the protests, the PMDC issued a notification announcing the new date for the test, which is now slated for Sunday, September 10.

Earlier in the day, a group of foreign students staged a protest outside the PMDC headquarters in Islamabad. The students expressed their concerns over the previously announced date for the entry test and the newly introduced MDCAT rules. According to these new regulations, foreign students are required to achieve a passing percentage of 70%, a standard that the protesting students deemed excessively high. They argued that no other country in the world sets such a high passing percentage for medical entry tests.

This decision to reschedule the MDCAT comes as a relief to many students, providing them with more time to prepare for the crucial test. However, it remains to be seen how the PMDC will address the concerns raised about the high passing percentage for foreign students.
