Contrary to circulating reports, Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has refuted claims that he accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan. The rumors suggested that Shah had agreed to attend an Asia Cup match in Pakistan following an invitation from Zaka Ashraf, the interim chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Shah clarified his stance to the Indian media, stating, “I have not agreed to anything. This is just plain miscommunication. Probably done deliberately or mischievously. I’ll not be making any visit.” His statement came as a response to the widespread speculation that he would be visiting Pakistan.
The rumors originated from a meeting between Shah and Ashraf on the sidelines of an annual International Cricket Council (ICC) conference held in Durban, South Africa. The meeting, which was reported to have taken place in a cordial atmosphere, involved discussions about Pakistan’s hybrid model for the Asia Cup and the upcoming ICC World Cup in India next year.
During this meeting, it was reported that Shah had accepted Ashraf’s invitation to visit Pakistan. In return, Shah extended an invitation to Ashraf to visit India and watch the World Cup there next year. It was reported that Ashraf accepted Shah’s invitation. However, with Shah’s recent denial, it appears that the BCCI Secretary will not be attending the Asia Cup in Pakistan as previously speculated.
