Government Reinstates SMS Service for Streamlined Passport Tracking

The government has revived the SMS service for passport applications after a three-year break. This move is aimed at providing citizens with crucial information about passport preparation and delivery. Alongside this, a new schedule for issuing tokens to applicants has been introduced in all passport offices across the country.
The SMS service can be accessed through the code 9988, and is part of the Directorate General Immigration & Passports (DGIP)’s initiative to improve and streamline its services. With this system, applicants will now receive notifications at various stages of passport processing on their registered mobile numbers. These updates will include information on application receipt, processing status, and passport delivery, ensuring that citizens are kept abreast of the progress of their applications.
In addition to this, the government has introduced specific timings for issuing tokens to provide applicants with a more convenient experience. Tokens will be distributed from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm from Mondays to Thursdays, and until 12:00 pm on Fridays, at all passport offices nationwide. This scheduling is designed to reduce wait times and enhance the overall efficiency of the passport application process.
This reinstatement of the SMS service and the implementation of token distribution schedules mark positive steps toward modernizing and improving passport services, ultimately benefiting citizens seeking this essential travel document.
