Google has unveiled plans to open 50 smart schools in Pakistan’s federal capital, Islamabad. The Google for Education team recently met with the Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training to explore innovative educational programs that will transform the country’s educational system. Tech Valley is a local partner in this project.
The 50 smart schools in Islamabad would each be given 30,000 Google for Education IDs, as reported by the state news agency. Many digital tools, including practice sets powered by AI, will be available to students with these IDs to promote collaboration and increase productivity.
The meeting also covered upcoming projects such as Google for Education tool workshops for teachers, a public Google Reference School, Google Career Certificates to teach 2,000 young people valuable skills, and a partnership with Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education to host an Edutech event.
Google reaffirmed its dedication to the empowerment of women on International Women’s Day in March. The company highlighted the potential for a future marked by enhanced inclusion, prosperity, and equality for all by providing women with the skills and resources.
Google is launching programs to promote workplace equality and women’s empowerment to close these gaps. In 2022, Google debuted its Career Certificates program in Pakistan.
To help women achieve their goals and increase their economic chances, the initiative reserved half of the scholarships for them. In 2023, 44,500 students were empowered by the program’s scholarship awards, and in 2024, the program granted 45,000 additional scholarships.
Furthermore, through the Google News Initiative (GNI) and with support from local partners, Google has been providing training for budding journalists, creating avenues for women to gain valuable reporting experience, and addressing the inclusivity of newsrooms.
